Meet the Maker
Hailing from the artists' town of Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, I am the daughter of Tommy Lochhead, the 'father of studio pottery' in Scotland. After graduating in Ceramics from Duncan of Jordanstone Art School in Dundee, I worked for some years in Community Arts , and later as a college lecturer and secondary Art and Design teacher. Having recently left teaching, I now focus exclusively on my own work, creating thrown and hand built ceramic pieces. I also accept commissions for both ceramics and paintings.
My ceramics are often based on the natural world, particularly the animal kingdom – visits to Neolithic cave paintings such as those at Lascaux have had a profound influence on my work. I work primarily in earthenware, with slips and underglazes designed to create the bold colour palette that I desire.
